A change in seasons is the PERFECT time to give a little extra attention toward supporting your liver in its natural cleansing process. Yoga poses that involve twisting and "wringing" out the organs are the perfect medicine and support for the body to cleanse, purify and renew your health after a long winter of storing toxins.
During the months of March and April, try a daily dose of Lord of the Fishes pose (Ardha Matsyendrasana).
To do this pose:
Sit at the edge of folded blanket with your legs straight out in front. Bend your right knee and bring your heel toward your right buttock. Place your hands around your shins and pick up your leg and place your foot on the other side of your left leg. Shift your weight to your left hip, bend your left knee, and bring your left heel near your right buttock. Turn to the right and place your hand behind you flat or on your finger tips or on block. Ground into your sitting bones evenly, lift your chest, and stretch your left arm high. Turn your belly and ribcage to the right, placing your elbow on the outside of your right knee. Keep your chest lifted as you breathe into your belly. Breathe into the pose for 30 - 60 seconds and then slowly unwind. Do the same thing on the 2nd side switching legs.
